Wedding Madness
This summer I have realized one thing: Everyone is getting married. Two of my good friends are getting married. All three cousins that are my age are getting married. My great uncle, who is 75, is getting married. Love is in the air.
(I think I missed the boat somewhere.)
Last weekend I traveled to Iowa with my dad and uncle. Boy was that interesting! I think when you travel with just your own immediate family there are just unwritten rules in the car, when you listen to music, when you eat snacks, when you will stop, etc. Traveling with another person just throws the rules out the window. I didn't like my uncle's music and he didn't like mine. It was my first time taking turns to drive on the way to Iowa. Usually my parents just take turns and I sleep. I don't like driving to start with, plus I don't like driving the van. Finally after 10 hours we got to Iowa.
Friday evening was Tim's, my first cousin, wedding. We got to our motel around 3. Quite a few members of my extended family were already at the hotel. My dad and uncle went swimming. I finished reading my novel and rested for a bit. After their swim, we got ready and grabbed a hamburger at Wendy’s.
The wedding started at 7 pm. My dad has 5 brothers. All of them and their families were there. So, tons of Dunhams! Plus my Grandma, great aunts and uncles were also there. The a/c in the church was not working. It was 98 degrees that day with high humidity and dew point. Miserable.
The wedding was beautiful. My uncle (a reverend) married Tim and Kilee. Kilee has a guy for her "attendant of honor" and he got food poisoning that day. He threw up earlier that day during pictures. His shirt and tux was all dirty, so they quickly had to clean it. During the ceremony he left (obviously he got sick). Poor guy. At least he didn't throw up on the bride's dress or something. It could have been a lot worse! The rest of the wedding went smoothly. I'm not so sure about their piano player though, maybe I'm just too picky with music.
The reception was at 8:30. We didn't have very good directions and we almost couldn't find it. It was a nice reception hall and it was cold in there. I love a/c! There was a buffet of hors d’oeuvres...Amazing food! Then it came time for the champagne and toasts. Umm I guess I have not stepped out of the “IWU-Bubble” very much because I didn’t know any protocol for any of that. The champagne was expensive, but my 1 tiny sip still cause me to stick out my tongue and make a face. Nasty stuff. The cake was beautiful 3 square layers and yummy too. Then around 10:00 it came time for dancing. Yes I’m allowed by my college to dance at weddings, but this was only the third time I had even been at a wedding with dancing. Plus, I don’t even know how to dance. 10:00 was my bed time, especially after being up since 5 am. My whole table (except my cousin Leah’s husband-Jason) left to go dance or take pictures. Finally around 11:00 my party decided to head back to the hotel.
I had to share a bed with my grandma. I was exhausted from a long week and day so I feel into bed. I just had rolled over and closed my eyes, when…yes my uncle, dad and grandmother started snoring. Needless to say, I did not get very much sleep that night.
